Case Study: 2 doors for a 1920’s property in Ilkley

This beautiful property in Ilkley was built in the 1920’s. We were asked to hand craft two doors that now gives much presence to the front elevation of this property. The second side door is simple, but matches perfectly to the main entrance door. Both doors meticulously hand crafted using traditional tools in our workshop.

Both doors were made from the same wood from the same tree, treated with traditional oils.

An interesting fact about the English Oak we used: The tree was cut down in Lincoln in the late 50’s. When I went to source the material for this project, I bought the wood from the granddaughter of the gentleman who cut the tree down over 70 years ago! It was a surreal moment to know the provenance of the wood and that she loved working with wood as much as I do.
