Cross Boarded Doors

Traditional cross boarded doors typically have 3 vertical pieces of solid English Oak. The bringing together of the boards, crossing at the back with horizontal boards, fixing them with wooden pegs that are hammered through the front and back boards and wedging the pegs in place, mechanically fixes the boards together making the door extremely strong and durable. This is a traditional method that has been used for centuries since Tudor, Jacobean and Georgian times.

The doors are usually finished with a weather draft strips. The doors meet all UK thermal and acoustic regulations and also include modern security locks.

Listed Building Doors

We have over 40 years experience hand crafting traditional doors for listed buildings. We are well versed in the strict guidelines you have to work with. Often listed buildings have arched doorways usually with a carved oak spandrel that is a variation of the flat-arched entrance. This creates a more decorative appeal to the listed building door for the current taste for things of the past.

Listed Buildings we work with include:

  • Chapels
  • Old Parish Churches
  • Manor Houses
  • Period Hotels
  • Old Coaching Inns
  • Converted Stables and Barns
  • Old Town Halls

Internal Doors

Most of the time we work with external doors, entrances to properties where the customer is looking for the period look. Usually overjoyed and loving their new hand crafted door, we then get follow up requests to replace their internal doors to the property.

Internal doors are much lighter in construction and less timber is used. Nevertheless we still hand craft each and every internal door using solid English Oak. Where necessary we can replace the door frames too, so the Oak used is consistent with both the frame and door.
